I found this in todays paper, and thought it was interesting

But many of us are thinking about the date. Here are 13 reasons why:

1. NO FEAR? TRY AGAIN

According to Smithsonian Magazine, triskaidekaphobia, an irrational fear of 13s, is the nation's favorite superstition.

2. STAY HOME

Fear of 13 costs the United States $1 billion a year in absenteeism, travel cancellations and reduced commerce on the 13th of every month, whether a Friday or not, Smithsonian Magazine estimates.

3. GO BACK TO BED

The collision of Friday, the sixth day of the week, and No. 13 is considered ominous.

4. TRIPLE WITCHING

Friday the 13th occurs up to three times a year. We'll see another in the witchy month of October.

5. BLAME IT ON EVE

Friday's reputation as a day of infamy reputedly begins at the beginning, in Genesis. Urban legend Web sites cite Friday as the day Eve gave Adam that cursed apple, God tied the tongues of Babel, and the flood began. Friday was also the day of Christ's crucifixion.

6. THE BETRAYER'S NUMBER

Judas was the 13th guest at the last supper.

7. WHEN 13 CONVENE...

An ideal coven is composed of 13 witches.

8. BAD DAY FOR KNIGHTS

Friday the 13th's reputation was clinched on Oct. 13, 1307, when France's King Philip IV ordered the arrest and execution of Jaques de Molay, grand master of the Knights Templar, and 60 senior knights of the powerful Crusader order. Expect a fresh frenzy of phobia when the "Da Vinci Code" movie opens this summer; the Knights Templar play a prominent role in the novel's plot.

9. NAMES OF EVIL

A name of 13 letters is considered especially unlucky. Consider: Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Theodore Bundy and Albert DeSalvo.

10. "HOUSTON . . . "

Apollo 13 was launched in 1970 at 13:13 hours (Central time) from pad 39 (13 x 3) and aborted on April 13 - though it wasn't a Friday, thank goodness.

11. WHAT COMES AFTER 12?

More than 80 percent of high-rises have no 13th floor. Airplanes rarely have an aisle 13. Hospitals and hotels routinely have no Room 13. Hundreds of cities have no 13th Street.

12. NO. 13? MEET NO. 14

In France, socialites called quatorziens (fourteeners) were rented out as the 14th guest to avoid 13 at the dinner table.

13. COMPLETE SET IS 12

Twelve is considered a "complete" number - 12 months in a year, 12 signs of the zodiac, 12 tribes of Israel. Evil 13 is the first step from completeness.

Here's some things about luck that I just happened to let my mind wander into (sometimes it just goes off on it's own [img]wink.gif[/img] )

Probably a good day to avoid large disfigured people wearing hockey masks carrying machete's

Walking under a ladder may not be unlucky, but walking under one that has a clumsy guy with a lot of tools or paint may be. (avoid this if you can)

Betting on a three legged horse in a race may be a very unlucky thing to do (therefore, that horseshoe may not be so lucky, especially if it was the one off the forth leg)

A black cat may not bring you bad luck, but it may poop on your carpet (and you could be the unlucky one who steps in it or has to clean it up)

A rabbits foot may be considerred lucky, but how lucky was the rabbit who lost it [img]eek.gif[/img]

A four leaf clover is a lucky sign to many, unless you happen to be allergic to clover

I used to be supersticious regarding Friday the 13th, until 08/13/04. That was the day Hurricane Charley took a sudden and unexpected turn to the right and missed Tampa Bay entirely. Not so lucky for the folks in Punta Gorda and Central Florida, but extraodinarily lucky for me.

Oddly enough the #2 comes up in my life a lot. I have had the phone extension 222 3x in different jobs here in Florida, my address has 2 in it 2x, I live with my #2 brother, I have the number 2 in my present work phone extension 2x. I have had 2 Cadillacs, 2 LeBarons, 2 Lincoln Town Coupes and 2 Lincoln Marks. I have moved to Florida 2x. I keep in touch with 2 former neighbors from Ohio, I keep in touch with only 2 relatives in email. My brother has procured my last 2 dogs for me. (and I know to some of you this is all just a pile of #2...Fine. I'll stop)
